Neuschwanstein Castle (1998)

Neuschwanstein Castle (1998)

I have traveled to Germany and Switzerland many times over the course of my career. My first visit was in 1973 when Susan and I wandered Europe via Eurailpass. We were in Germany for almost a month, living with our friends, Kathy & Jim in Essen, “Die Einkaufsstadt”—literally the “shopping city,” because it didn’t have much else to offer. We took the train down the Rhine to Lucerne, Switzerland and then to Salzburg Austria.

In 1983, I took the train to the top of Switzerland’s Jungfrau, Europe’s highest mountain, in 1983 over a weekend while on a long business trip. (Only the Swiss would think to run a railroad to the top of a mountain, resulting in Europe’s highest railroad station at 11,330 feet above sea level.)

The majority of images in this archive were made in 1998, when Geoff, Elisabeth, her friend Andrea, and I traveled over Germany, Italy, and the UK.

The Wild Sonoma Coast

While Big Sur may be more famous, the Sonoma Coast, some 80 miles north of San Francisco is just as wild. To my mind, there is no more dramatic meeting of land and sea.  Plus there are redwood … [Read More...]

A Trip to LaCrosse

I took a day trip with a group from St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton. We rode the bus through pouring rain for a while and two and a half hours later arrived at the autumnal beauty of LaCrosse, … [Read More...]

Wisconsin 2018

The differences among seasons are much more obvious in Wisconsin than in California. Winter is brown or white; spring is light green; summer is darker green; fall is every color. The photos in the … [Read More...]
