In the summer of 1997, I traveled to Chiang Mai, Thailand to attend a sales conference of the Asia sales group for Teradyne, (my former employer). Our hosts arranged an elephant tour, a trip to Wat Chiang Man Buddhist Temple, and a visit to a village where the Hmong people from the central highlands of Laos had sought refuge in relatively peaceful Thailand.
