These photographs were made in May 1994, when I participated in an Asia sales meeting in Hangzhou, China, which is not too far from Shanghai. Our hotel was located on West Lake in the center of the city, surrounded by a pleasant park. The photographs here were made mostly in the early morning.
We then traveled by bus about 180 miles west to HuangShan National Park—famous for its unusually steep, almost cone-like mountains, many usually shrouded in fog. But the views are spectacular. It also involves strenuous hiking. One of my primary memories is coming back to the hotel exhausted and going to bed at 6:30 p.m.
