Osprey — June and July 2021

There is a permanent osprey nest at the entrance to Hamilton Beach. It’s spring and osprey do what osprey do. I’ve been visiting the nest most mornings and using my telephoto lens to capture images (not the birds). I can hear the chicks but being on the ground and 25 years away, saw one only once (the last image here). Sharp-eyed osprey are amazing fishers. They can also stare you down.

Three weeks later, I returned to the nest with my camera. The chick was now almost full grown and stayed close to the mother. The last seven images are various mother and child portraits, which involved a lot of staring at me.
