After spending the weekend in the San Francisco Bay Area to attend my brother’s memorial service and visit friends, I spent a day driving north along US 101 to once again enjoy and photograph California’s far northern coast. My chief objective was to enjoy the redwoods along the Avenue of the Giants and especially, the Lady Bird Johnson Memorial Grove in Redwood National Park. In the images I’ve made of the redwoods I want to convey a sense of silence, serenity, and calm. I hope you feel I’ve succeeded.
The small town of Trinidad boasts a bay where fishing boats are moored as well as dramatic surf at Trinidad Beach. I ended my day in Crescent City just south of the Oregon border. Its lighthouse has a New England feel that I enjoyed.
