I have been to Yellowstone National Park a number of times, but never before in the crowds of August. Happily, Yellowstone is a huge place and it mostly seems pretty empty except when visiting popular locations–none more so than Old Faithful Geyser. In 1888, John Muir wrote to his wife, “Only by going alone in silence, without baggage, can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness.” Things have changed a bit since then. But as always, nature trumps whatever baggage we humans have brought along.
