In June 1998, my children, Geoff and Elisabeth, and I (and Elisabeth’s friend, Andrea) undertook a European Grand Tour of Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and England. These images are from that tour. My camera was a Nikon N90 and I shot all the images on Velvia film (subsequently scanned into digital with a Nikon LS 2000 scanner). Today’s digital cameras cannot duplicate the rich saturation (especially of reds and blues) of Velvia.
I will be updating this post as I process the raw scans through Lightroom 5, so I hope you check back here often.
Germany
For some reason I was obsessed about the doors of the houses of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, a beautiful town that survived WWII with its medieval charm intact and apparently populated by gardeners.
Switzerland
Lucerne and the Vierwaldstaettersee
Italy
Rome, Tivoli, and Capri [alleys are Tivoli; harbor and doors are Capri…]
St Peter’s (There are no shots of the facade of St. Peter’s since it was covered in corrugated metal and scaffolding at the time.)
The Amalfi Coast and Positano
